Syllabus Description:

The theme of this composition course is "Southern Gothic Literature." We will approach the Southern Gothic through a number of forms and media: the novel, the short story, poetry, and film. This is likely to include Faulkner, O'Connor, and Applewhite, as well as contemporary depictions of the South in film and television. The course is heavily geared towards writing critically and academically about the subject.

Catalog Description: 
Study and practice of good writing; topics derived from reading and discussing stories, poems, essays, and plays. Cannot be taken if student has already received a grade of 2.0 or higher in either ENGL 111, ENGL 121, or ENGL 131.
