Syllabus Description:

As inevitably hurried study of readings taken from all over the Old and New Testaments, focusing mainly on those parts of the Bible with the greatest "literary" interest--narrative, poetic, lyric and philosophical.

Students will be expected to attend class regularly, keep up with reading assignments and take part in open discussions.  Written work will consist entirely of a series of from five to ten in-class essays, done in response to study questions handed out in advance.

Catalog Description: 
Introduction to the development of the religious ideas and institutions of ancient Israel, with selected readings from the Old Testament and New Testament. Emphasis on reading The Bible with literary and historical understanding.
