UWHS January Norming & Training Materials

Fall

2019 UWHS Norming Training:

Welcome to the ENGL training website! Below are the materials we ask you to peruse prior to the January 11th training. We ask, especially, that you read the two sample portfolios and spend a bit of time (but no more than an hour) using the rubric to give them tentative grades. We'll norm the portfolios together at the training.

Training Details:

Friday, January 11, 2019
9 AM to 1:30

UW Seattle Campus.  Miller Hall, Room 212

Portfolio preparation time starting at 8 am will be available for those who would like to use this (optional) time to prepare the sample portfolio you’ll have received ahead of time.

Check-in starts at 8:30 am.

Map and Parking

Free parking will be provided in the Central Parking Garage, which can be accessed from Gate # 1 (located at 15th Avenue NE and NE 41st Street).   A map showing the garage as well as the training location is attached. When you enter the garage, you will need to tell the attendant that you have parking arranged under code 196669. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST GIVE THIS PARKING CODE TO THE ATTENDANT IN ORDER TO RECEIVE FREE PARKING. A full campus map can be viewed here: http://www.washington.edu/maps/.

What to Bring

Please bring a copy of the textbook with you to the training. You may also want to bring a laptop to use during the training. Additionally, be sure that you have your UW NetID and password with you so as to access the WiFi network. If you don’t have your own UW NetID, login information will be provided at the training.

There will be an optional independent workshop period at the end of the training (1:00-1:30). If you would like to participate, please bring a sample portfolio, or a portfolio-related artifact (either in print or online form).

Additional Information

We will provide a $100 honorarium as well as four clock hours for attending.  Paperwork will be provided at the training.  Box lunches will also be provided.

Lastly, UWHS can reimburse your school/district the cost of your substitute teacher to attend this training. Find more information and the form to complete here

We’re looking forward to seeing you in person!
