Syllabus Description (from Canvas):

This capstone course offers an opportunity for you to reflect on what you want from a career as you begin the next phase of your life.  You’ve probably experienced your fair share of skepticism or anxiety from well-meaning relatives and the media about the value of a degree in English.  We’re going to read some case studies that argue powerfully for the importance (and employability) of the humanities in a STEM world and that will provide a starting point for self-reflection. We’ll also learn about and practice using a range of tools that will help you make legible to employers the value of your skills, perspectives, and experiences as an English major.  Short research and writing assignments will culminate in a portfolio that showcases your work to employers and community stakeholders.

Catalog Description:
Offers methods for students to identify transferrable skills gleaned while completing the English major. Connections between specific skills of literary/theoretical and critical reading and writing, and the demands of contemporary workplaces and civic life offer students the opportunity to consider their post-college goals. Students will develop an e-portfolio to help present their skills to potential employers. Prerequisite: ENGL 202 and ENGL 302. Offered: AWSp.
