Syllabus Description (from Canvas):

ENGL 556: Introduction to Queer Studies

This course is designed for students who want to go onto exam and dissertation work claiming queer studies or queer theory as one of their central fields. The course offers students the opportunity to read central texts that have influenced the development of queer studies, from the 1970s until the present. Students will leave the quarter with the capacity to tell a story about the genealogy of queer theory and queer studies. Course assignments are designed to support course goals: in addition to writing weekly responses, students write one five-page essay on a central text. They also sign up to introduce a text, and they read an additional monograph of their choice.
