Syllabus Description (from Canvas):

Curiosity is the antidote to judgement

This graduate prose workshop is a place for you to generate new work, take risks, and question yourself and others about your writing.  As you do so, you should be developing a good sense of your own passions, obsessions, and fears as writers.  In order to achieve these goals, you will generate new writing, use one or more workshop methods that center questions rather than statements (Critical Response Process, The Asking) to respond to each other’s writing, and undertake a study of prose style.

Required Readings:

How to Write Stunning Sentences by Nina Schuyler (Fiction Advocate Press, 2018)

Course Reader (will be available in late December)

If you are not a current MFA student in creative writing, you must contact me (mayas@uw.edu) with any questions about the class.
