Syllabus Description (from Canvas):
English 297: Writing Humans / Deploying the Humanities
This course will use writing to examine how fields in the humanities grapple with what it means to be human. We will read and compose about literature, focusing on poetry, as well as visual art and philosophy, over two sequences. This course will ask you to reflect on what it means to be a human being in 2025 and how we approach the human writer at a moment of "AI"/LLM (Large Language Models). We will reflect on the set of technologies called "AI" without using them to compose. Instead, we will revert to older technologies, like the printed page. Each major project will be conferenced with the instructor and revised.
