Syllabus Description:

We'll read and discuss passages from the Old and New Testaments, with emphasis on those items of most literary interest. Students will be expected to read assignments as listed and come to class regularly, prepared to discuss the day's reading.  Written work for the course will consist entirely of a series of between five and ten -in-class essays, written in response to study questions handed out in advance.  There will be no mid-term or final examination.  The recommended text for the course is the New Oxford Annotated Bible.

Catalog Description: 
Introduction to the development of the religious ideas and institutions of ancient Israel, with selected readings from the Old Testament and New Testament. Emphasis on reading The Bible with literary and historical understanding.
