Winter Quarter 2021

ENGL 243A: Reading Poetry (5, max. 15)

Course Description: Our course will serve as an in-depth consideration of the genre of poetry. We will focus upon English-language traditions from the medieval period to the present day. Generally speaking, we will progress from older works to more recent ones. We will devote special attention to the sonnet as a form of particular importance in this tradition. We will devote special time in our final weeks to UW poets: professors, lecturers, and former students who have taught and written poetry on this campus.
