Doctor of Philosophy Program Guide: Final Examination

  • The Final Exam can only be scheduled after the Dissertation Director has approved the dissertation.
  • Five weeks are required for scheduling and completion of the defense.
  • Approval for the Final Exam can only be conveyed to the Graduate School via MGP after the entire Dissertation Committee has agreed to a time for the defense and the Request for Final Examination form has been signed.

The Final Examination (dissertation defense) involves the Graduate School as well as the Department. Because of the Graduate School’s involvement, specific logistical procedures must be adhered to exactly. Scheduling of the Final Examination and conveyance of results to the Graduate School can only be done by the Graduate Program Adviser, based on signatures of the Dissertation Committee on the Request for Final Examination form and the Final Examination warrant.
