The English Department at the University of Washington Seattle welcomes Kiese Laymon and Bettina Judd for the 4th Annual Lee Scheingold Lecture in Poetry and Poetics. For this year's series, Kiese and Bettina have chosen specific texts to share with each other: Heavy and “Da Art of Storytellin, A Prequel” by Kiese; patient. and “Glossolalia” by Bettina. These texts will provide a grounding, a rooted space, to begin the conversation, which will necessarily move outward, inward, forward, and backward as these artists consider Black poetics in and outside of their work. Each artist will read a short selection, which will be followed by their conversation, and a short Q&A. Author texts will be raffled at the end.

This series is made possible with the generous support of Lee Scheingold.  It is free and open to all, though registration is required.
