Activities and Interests

My primary research interests are in language policy and applied linguistics (especially language education) in multilingual contexts. Four central themes of my research are: (1) the links between language policy and other areas of social policy; (2) the impact of language policies in education; (3) the central role of language in education; and (4) English as an international language. My current projects include an edited book on medium of instruction policies, a chapter on critical approaches to language policy studies, an article on language and the politics of ethnicity, and an article critiquing the concept of "target language" in language education.
