The Temporality of Realism and Romance in "He Knew He Was Right"

Faulkner, Sarah. "The Temporality of Realism and Romance in 'He Knew He Was Right.'" The Fortnightly Review. Dec. 2015. Web.

Through examining a contrast between realism and romance, I argue that Anthony Trollope's 1869 novel 'He Knew He Was Right' locates romance in the projected temporal 'other' spaces of the past and future in order to shape a realism that operates solely within the confined and detailed space of the present.

This paper was the 2015 graduate winner of The Trollope Prize.
