Abbey Melendez: Murder May Maketh Man: Exploring Masculinity and Murder in Doctor Glas

This study  examines how the dichotomy between political and psychological patriarchy correlates to the bidirectional relationship between the destabilization of the main character's, Glas' mental wellbeing and his formation of hostile and isolative ideologies in a way that motivates the murder Glas commits in an attempt to prove his masculinity. I use scholarship surrounding the psychological study of involuntarily celibate men (incels) and 19th/20th degeneration theory.
