This project delves into the worlds of the literary self-exiles E.M. Cioran and Samuel Beckett, examining their lives, works, and self-translation practices to investigate how they transfigure themselves and their art through language to regain autonomy over their selfhood and artistic expression. I connect their experiences with personal meditations and questions on language and individuality as a means of demonstrating their relevancy to contemporary struggles of writers of marginal backgrounds and fractured identities.
