This study compares media coverage of immigration and Luis Alberto Urrea's book The Devil's Highway which focuses on the tragic story of the Yuma 14, who crossed the desert and would never make it out. I use Leo Chavez's framework of the Latino Threat Narrative to identify common myths used as realities in media coverage. These myths were evidenced through the the articles I assessed written about the story of the Yuma 14 in 2001, myths that Urrea subverts in his book
